Representatives from all sectors of the citrus industry in Tucuman, western Argentina met last week to consider strategies for the future of their industry.

Growers, packers, agronomists, suppliers, marketeers and other institutions considered the opportunities, strengths, weaknesses and threats to the production of lemons in the province, the leading lemon exporting region in the world.

They concluded that the market for their product is becoming segmented according to different cultural or national demarcations, or because of plant health and other barriers limiting access to certain markets.

The association now aims to consult more widely with the citrus sector in the region to draw up an agenda on how to face the challenges of the future and ensure the continuing competitiveness of their product.
