East Malling Research has appointed tree physiologist Dr Julien Lecourt to lead a programme of research looking to optimise resource-use efficiency, yields and post-harvest quality in temperate tree-fruit production.
Lecourt joins EMR from INRA at Bordeaux in France, where he has gained extensive experience in a wide range of perennial crops.
“We are delighted to welcome Julien to EMR – this is an important post for the UK fruit industry as we seek to improve the yields and consistency from fruit producers,” said Dr Mark Else, programme leader at EMR. “Julien’s expertise will help steer EMR’s work on both traditional fruit crops and those that are considered novel for UK production.”
Lecourt holds a degree in biology and an MSc in molecular biology and biotechnology from the University of Normandy, as well as a PhD in plant biology from the University of Bordeaux Segalen.
