Leatherhead Food International has teamed up with the food industry to investigate salt reduction in food.

The company has established a widely supported research project with a number of food industry partners to address the issue as the media focus on the level of added salts in food increases.

The project's objective is to develop methods to reduce the level of salt in processed foods while ensuring taste and quality remains. The research commences later this month and will deliver a programme of work leading to practical steps to decrease product salt levels.

Companies already signed up to the initiative include Asda, Heinz and Unilever Bestfoods.
