The British Leafy Salads Association is holding its fifth annual conference on 24 November.

Seed breeder Rijk Zwaan is sponsoring the event, which will take place at the East of England Showground in Peterborough and will welcome delegates from production and marketing businesses as well as technical and buying personnel from their major customers.

Professor Silvana Nicola from Italy will update the UK with leafy salad research results from Europe for both protected and outdoor grown crops, and Dr Hans-Christoph Behr will provide marketing information on leafy salad crops grown throughout Europe.

Professor Ian Crute, the chief scientist of Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board will update delegates on the future direction of research for horticulture and Dr Julian Little, chair of the Agricultural Biotechnology Council will present the potential role of GM technology in horticulture.

A trade exhibition is also scheduled to run alongside the conference.
