LEAF urges farmers to throw open doors

Farmers across the country are being urged to throw open their farm gates to the public on Open Farm Sunday, June 1.

Building on last year’s event, when more than 400 farm gates opened to welcome 150,000 visitors, organisers LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) want this year’s event to be even bigger and better. Some farms will organise a small farm walk for their non-farming neighbours, whilst others will put on activities, food tasting, tractor and trailer rides, plus much more, for hundreds of people.

To give farmers a helping hand, LEAF will provide a pack, including posters, flyers, roadside notice boards and arrows, suggested activities, health and safety guidance, polo shirts and more.

In addition to the pack, LEAF is organising a series of practical on-farm workshop events during March and April to provide help on how to publicise and organise a fun and safe event.
