Global logistics companies LCL and Grindrod are joining forces to operate a perishable logistics sea and land-based network out of Southern Africa.
LCL Grindrod Pty Ltd is based in Cape Town with offices in Durban, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, Komatipoort and Maputo.
It will start business later this month and estimates it will handle 150,000 pallets of fruit destined for Europe, North America and the Far East, over the next year.
Grindrod operates a subsidiary, Perishable Cargo Agents (PCA), one of the leading perishable sea and airfreight forwarding companies in Southern Africa.
Executive director John Jones, said: “LCL Grindrod’s overall objective is to offer a value added fully integrated one-stop solution for customers in the fresh or frozen foodstuff or other perishable cargo industry.”
Johan Kruger, executive director LCL Southern Africa, a subsidiary of the NYKLauritzenCool group said: “This joint venture will create a wonderful platform to further enhance the integrated supply chain solution for customers, now including a full forwarding service.”
The company says LCL’s global network of subsidiaries, partners and sub-contractors will give it access to cost efficient transport solutions and will enable it to offer its customers all-in rates to all major markets in the world.
