Lawrance, left, and Jensen

With the continued expansion of its survey and consultancy activities, Jensen Associates has brought in Clive Lawrance as a partner, and is currently in the process of converting the company to a limited company.

Having founded the company only three years ago, director Carsten S Jensen said the addition of Lawrence to the team is a significant development.

"Starting up a business and getting a foothold in the market always requires hard work, as anyone who has tried it will tell you,” Jensen said. "And the world wide economic down-turn that followed 9/11 in our very first year certainly did not make our task any easier. Despite this, we have managed to gradually increase our customer base, and are starting to become known in the market for the high quality of our services.

"Especially during the last 12 months we have seen a steady increase in the number of assignments we are presented with, and it was clear early on this year that an increase in the permanent head count would be necessary, if we are to grow further."

Jensen did not rush the job of finding a partner. "It was important to find someone with the right combination of relevant knowledge and experience, that is, someone who has knowledge about perishables and post-harvest technology, as well as the personal, hands-on experience of arranging and optimising the transport and logistics chains. Such people are not easy to find as these are usually two separate areas, yet they are both equally important, if you are to assist importers, exporters and others in the international trade of perishables, at the levels we do. Getting in contact with Clive was a stroke of luck, and we are very pleased to have him on board."

Lawrance brings with him vast experience of dealing with logistics and supply chain management of perishable products. Within the UK perishable industry, many will recognise Lawrance from his involvement with government bodies to improve import procedures for perishables, and from numerous radio interviews and television appearances on the subject.

"During the last 22 years of being involved in the food supply chain I have been fortunate to experience the complete process from field to plate,” Lawrance explained. "It is this experience that I believe will enhance the services given by Jensen Associates to customers. It is our intention to provide a professional neutral and independent survey service. I am very pleased to be joining Carsten and Jensen Associates for the professionalism that the company provides.”
