As the South American citrus season draws to a close, Uruguay’s farm ministry is highlighting an increase in exports on last season, while lemon sendings from Argentina have dropped by 30 per cent year on year. In Uruguay, some 100,000 tonnes had been sold by the end of August and sendings to Brazil have increased substantially year on year, according to the Uruguayan ministry of agriculture. Meanwhile in north-western Argentina volumes of lemons exported are forecast to reach 250,000 tonnes by season’s end as the overall crop fell by almost a third due to frost and drought.
