Producers in remote regions of the country say there is an acute shortage of the foreign workers they need to operate their plantations.

“We have called on the minister of industry and trade to allocate several thousands of additional foreign workers without any further delay in order to prevent irreversible damage to our production infrastructure, which is geared almost entirely for export,” a producer said.

The producers affected have called for an independent committee to set up criteria for recovery, based on the actual and professional needs of each farm.
