Scotland’s first food and health co-ordinator has joined vegetable grower Albert Bartlett & Sons, as the firm’s new head of development and innovation.

Gillian Kynoch, an experienced community dietician with major expertise in public health nutrition and health promotion, has been working with Airdrie-based Albert Bartlett, Britain’s largest grower of root vegetables, on various projects since leaving her post as Scotland’s ‘food tsar’ last year.

Kynoch has been running her own freelance business consultancy, GKA Ltd, and working closely with the private sector. In her new role at Albert Barlett, Kynoch will be working on a wide range of initiatives, covering new products and new markets, for the company. Kynoch said: “I am really pleased to join Albert Bartlett as it continues to go from strength to strength in the industry. I have a fairly open remit here and will initially be working on a number of new products, and technical and environmental initiatives, as the company develops to meet new market opportunities.”

Kynoch, who will continue in her role of professor of food and consumer studies at Abertay University in Dundee, was also recently appointed to the board at the Scottish Agricultural College, Edinburgh.
