Krone delivers for Aldi in Darlington

Expanding supermarket chain Aldi has taken delivery of its first Krone Cool Liner trailer at its Darlington depot.

The Cool Liner was built to a strict criteria laid down by Aldi, which uses the Darlington site to test the specification and suitability of a range of vehicles and equipment before adding companies to its preferred supplier list. Aldi operates a fleet of more than 330 delivery vehicles across the UK.

The Cool Liner trailer operates as both a chiller and freezer, depending on the needs of the load, and has been built with a lifting axle and rear steering. Fleet Manager Alex Turner said he was impressed with the build process used by Krone as well as the 10 year anti-corrosion guarantee. “We put a spec sheet together of all the requirements that suit Aldi and Krone has been able to build us a trailer to fit our needs” he commented. “They worked very closely with us and have come up with a great product to add to our fleet”.

Krone is the first trailer manufacturer to market a refrigerated trailer with GPR or Steel sandwich panels. The firm claims the Cool Liner Duoplex GPR and Steel refrigerated trailer is easy-to-clean, decal-suitable and has 100 per cent CFC-free sandwich panels. Standard components from the running gear through to the rear lights allow the highest possible operating reliability.

The thickness of the front wall is 60mm over the entire width in the central recessed area for the air return profiles. “This not only means a K-value improvement, but at the same time increases the stability of the front wall,” said a statement. “The reinforcement provides a full return air cross-sectional area over the entire inner width of the fridge, which results in improving the energy balance of the vehicle body. In addition, the thicker front wall allows stronger connection with the side panels.”
