Koppert Biological Systems has launched Amblyseius californicus in a slow-release bag.

Under the product name Spical-Plus, it is believed it the first time this predatory mite has been available in slow-release bag format. The mite is very effective against various species of spider mite - two-spotted, fruit, citrus red and red palm - and is also effective against several tarsonemid mites.

According to Koppert, the advantages of A. californicus in slow-release bags is that it saves on labour compared to manual release and also gives improved preventative capabilities.

Because spider mites are often found on the underside of leaves, it can be difficult to spot them in time. This also makes them difficult to reach with chemical crop protection agents. The predatory mite A. californicus searches for the spider mites. The broad range of its diet and its ability to go without food for longer periods of time mean that it can also effectively be used as a preventative measure.

The product is suitable for a wide range of salad, fruit and ornamental crops.
