Kiwifruit disease strikes Chilean orchards

The Chilean ministry of agriculture has said that the kiwifruit vine disease Psa has now been found on 30 different orchards. It is calling on growers to take all the necessary steps to try to contain the disease, including strict controls on fruit movement.

The affected orchards are mainly in the Maule region with one discovery in Biobio, but government plant-health advisers are calling on growers throughout Chile to adopt prevention measures including disinfecting equipment.

The ministry has set up a dedicated area of its website with all the information Chilean growers need in the fight against the disease.
