Kiwiberry bears fruit for Waitrose

Kiwiberry bears fruit for Waitrose

The tiny green fruit - just 5-20g in weight - has been sourced from New Zealand and Chile, and although it looks like a grape externally, internally it is more like a kiwifruit and has the same tart flavour as green Hayward kiwifruit but the sweetness of a ripe plum. Its skin is edible and smooth.

The fruit, which is native to New Zealand, went into a small number of stores on March 9 and finishes at the end of next week.

Production is not available in the northern hemisphere as yet, so the fruit will not reappear until next spring. It is being marketed in 125g punnets at £1.99 a pack.
