The bins, launched last year, are well suited to the fresh produce market and have already been taken up by several operators. Made using foam injection moulding techniques, they have removable side panels and require less storage space than other bulk containers. They are stackable and can been assembled and disassembled easily by one person. Available in perforated and non-perforated versions, they are 120cm by 100cm by 71.5cm deep.

The company has set up Kitbin International Ltd in the UK to run a lease programme for the containers.

'Kitbin represents a 70 per cent saving compared to bringing back other empty containers in one piece,' explained Carole Rosenblatt of Dolav Plastic Products. 'They also occupy one-fifth of the storage space when empty.' They have already been used in sea freight shipments from South Africa and for citrus from Jamaica.
