A fitness initiative which encourages school children to exercise and teaches them importance of a healthy diet will receive a boost as BerryWorld and its blueberry grower Winterwood sponsor its free berries.

The Skip2BFit scheme, which currently has over 120,000 participants, gives each child an 80g carton of blueberries as a reward for taking part.

BerryWorld’s sister company, Poupart Citrus, has also announced it will sponsor the initiative, providing clementines and satsumas to 100 schools in South London, targeting 45,000 children.

Adam Olins, managing director of Poupart Group, said: “Skip2BFit is a fantastic way of educating young people about keeping fit and raising awareness of healthy eating at an early age.

“By providing blueberries and now citrus fruit, we not only encourage children to taste a fruit which might be new to them, but also educate both the children and their parents about the benefits of healthy eating. We also hope to encourage parents to start including the fruit in lunchboxes.”
