Schoolchildren from the local Milverton Primary school in Leamington Spa were on stage at this year’s Royal Show as part of Sainsbury’s healthy eating cooking challenge ‘Active Kids Get Cooking’.
Sainsbury’s Jason Carpenter recounted that since it was launched two year’s ago, schools across the country have entered their own recipes to compete in regional and national finals. Jamie Oliver chose the winning recipe at the show.
“I can assure you there was a great deal of fruit and vegetables in all these recipes, which is an initiative between us and the British Nutrition Foundation,” said Carpenter.
In its publicity material Sainsbury’s claims that it has sold more British apples and pears that any other retailer in the first four weeks of the British season.
