A new variety of broccoli that tastes like peas was introduced to Sainsbury’s shelves this week. The variety, named Bellaverde, has been developed by scientists to encourage children to eat broccoli.

Bellaverde has been grown in Lincolnshire and will cost £1.79 for a 200g portion in store. The product has looks like broccoli but has the sweet taste of peas.

Sainsbury’s product technologist Joann Hipperson said: “We think this is a great way of introducing kids to the health benefits of broccoli. “It is a great variety that is naturally sweeter and combines the health benefits of broccoli with a flavour, which is similar to peas. It will be a real hit with children.”
