Kent spuds hit the shelves at Asda

Kent new potatoes arrived in local Asda stores this week and, according to supplier Fenmarc Produce, the local drive has proven a hit.

Shoppers have been able to pick up fresh, locally grown new potatoes, within hours of them leaving the field, since Wednesday.

The loose potatoes are available in the 11 Asda stores across the Kent region.

The initiative has already taken off in Cornwall and Pembrokeshire.

The spuds are being grown for Asda by JP Ash & Sons, which has farmed at Newlands Farm, Ramsgate, for the past 53 years.

Richard Ash said: “The potatoes are fresh from the field, delivered to store in the shortest time possible, hand selected to give the most wonderful taste.”

Asda potato buyer Drew Kirk added: “Kentish new potatoes from the Garden of England will offer the customer a great regional product. Harvest has begun and product will be sold in store from May 23. We will highlight the regional offer using a Kent liner so customers know exactly where to find them in store.”
