Local food initiative Produced in Kent is going from strength to strength, according to the scheme’s Jill Sargent.

The initiative took a stand at last week’s National Fruit Show in conjunction with Local to London, the scheme based at New Covent Garden Market that aims to get more food from the South East on to plates across the capital, and was showcasing processed lines from the region, including juices, jams and chutneys.

“We are showcasing our diversification here, “said Sargent. “The scheme is progressing well; people are identifying with the branding and people are starting to see the value of the network. We are building links in the chain and the whole thing is hopefully coming full circle.”

Produced in Kent will be supporting a variety of apple festivals across the county this season and partnering with other events around the region.

The show was also a success for Tom Beeston of Local to London. “We have had new growers signing up to us with new ideas, and it has gone well,” he said.
