National Farmers’ Union (NFU) president Peter Kendall has been re-elected as vice-president of the EU farmers’ organisation COPA.
As vice-president of the leading farm body, Kendall will be part of a team that leads discussions on the future of the industry.
He said: “I am very pleased to be re-elected and to have the confidence and support of farm leaders across Europe. We will see major changes this year with the European Parliament elections and a new commission team and it is vital that the NFU continues to build strong relationships with the decision-makers in Brussels.
“With so many important issues on the horizon relating to the food chain, environmental legislation, the EU budget and the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), it is an important time to have a strong voice at the heart of Europe.”
Padraig Walshe, president of the Irish Farmers’ Association, was elected president of COPA.
