Peter Kendall, president of the National Farmers Union, has been elected as a vice-president of COPA-COGECA, the umbrella organisation representing the interests of farmers in Europe.

Kendall’s appointment was confirmed this weeek at the Praesidium in Brussels. The NFU believes the move will help strengthen its influence on key issues affecting European agriculture.

Kendall said: “It is important the NFU plays an active role in ensuring COPA represents the concerns of European farmers and makes sure its influence is felt in Brussels.”

The joint vice-president post, which Kendall will hold with five colleagues, will last for two years. Jean-Michel Lemetayer of France’s FNSEA has been appointed president.
