Ken Alexander

Ken Alexander

Ken Alexander, the superintendent of New Spitalfields Market, has died at the age of 53.

Ken died on the evening of Thursday, July 2. He had been ill since early May.

He leaves behind wife, Corinne, and their two sons.

David Smith, director of markets at the City of London, said: "This is a real tragedy both for Ken's family and the market and we will do all we can to support Corinne and the boys in the coming months.

"Ken was a truly outstanding superintendent of Spitalfields Market who had enormously strengthened the city's relationships with the traders and was universally liked as much as he was respected. His lively spirit could brighten up the dullest day or occasion. He was great fun to be with, and we will all miss him more than I can say."

The funeral will take place at 11am on Wednesday, July 22 at St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Trafalgar Square.

Donations may be made either to one or both of two charities: MIND and St-Martin-in-the-Fields. Cheques should be made payable to the relevant charity and be sent to the undertaker: DC Poulton & Sons, Clarks Lane, Epping, Essex, CM16 4NJ

Our condolences to Ken’s family, friends and colleagues.
