Dr John Randall, chairman of Evesham supplier Kanes Foods, has died aged 82.

Randall, known affectionately as ‘the Doc’, was diagnosed with cancer in May and died after a short illness on 27 July.

He took over the prepared vegetable supplier in 1989, inheriting 1,600 staff in the process.

Randall previously worked for Nestlé but has led Kanes for more than two decades, with his last project the firm’s most ambitious.

The business is building a new £30 million sustainable factory on its existing site, which will produce bagged salads, at Middle Littleton.

Kanes Foods financial director Roger Beard said: “He was a man of enormous intellect, unbounded energy and a work ethic probably acquired during his formative years in South Wales.”

Beard said Randall had progressed from an “employer to a friend” and his integrity was “beyond question”.

His funeral took place on Wednesday at All Saints Church in Evesham. He is survived by his five sons.

Kanes Foods is a member of the Fresh Prepared Salads Producer Group, which includes Bakkavör, Natures Way Foods, Vitacress, Florette, Nature’s Best and aims to increase consumption through its Bring on the Salads campaign.
