Jubilee jam today

The first of this season’s outdoor grown strawberries has arrived just in time for the Queen’s Jubilee.

Supplies are high at pick-your-own farms across the country ahead of this weekend’s celebrations.

“The fruit has come on enormously in the last ten days thanks to the warm weather; the sun has brought out a fantastic flavour,” said Dennis Hilsdon, owner of Sharnfold Farm in East Sussex.

Oxfordshire’s popular pick-your-own at Rectory Farm, winner of FARMA PYO of the Year 2012, has also seen a rise in supply with strawberries available at £3.85/kg.

They also have second-grade ‘monkey nosed’ strawberries sold in their farm shop for jam making.
