Exports of vegetables from Jordan rose during the first seven months of 2008 by three per cent compared to the year-earlier period.

According to the Jordan Times, from January to July vegetable exports amounted to JOD180.3 million (£144.7m), up from JOD175.4m during the same period last year.

Vegetables are the third-most exported commodity from the Middle Eastern country, with tomatoes, sweet peppers, cucumbers and courgettes the most popular lines.

Iraq, Syria and the United Arab Emirates account for two thirds of sendings.
