The first consignment of new season Jersey tomatoes arrived at London's New Covent Garden Market today.
Caterer Paul Finalyson, pictured left, of the eponymous firm bought one of the initial pallets from P&I Fruits Ltd salesman Bob Bowers, pictured right.
'Quality is excellent and they look very pretty,' said Finalyson. 'You can't beat Jersey tomatoes – especially at the height of the season in August and September.' The glass-house-grown fruit fetched 80p for a pound this morning, and wholesalers said they expected a good season.
