Jazz apples will be doing their bit for endangered species this weekend, by providing nourishment to contestants in the Great Gorilla Run.
All 650 of the brave folk donning gorilla suits, as well as 1,000 or so ordinary dressed supporters attending the 7km run taking place on Sunday, September 24, will be rewarded with refreshing jazz apples for attempting to save the world’s last remaining gorillas.
In addition, to the £250,000 expected in sponsorship, organisers of the event are also hoping to break the world record for the ‘greatest gathering of people dressed in gorilla costumes’ with competitors coming from as far away as Germany, Iceland and the US.
The run kicks off at 10.30 am at Dunster Court, in East London, taking in four bridges, including Tower Bridge and Blackfriars, before ending back at the same spot two hours later.
Also backing the event are Dance music group Massive Attack who have permitted the use of their tracks in a promotional video, and American actress Daryl Hannah, who pledged her support for the cause after encountering the gorillas in Africa.
Race manager David Chandler said: “It is important that we give away nutritious food in our goody bags, so it is great to have Jazz apples on board who have extended their generosity to giving apples to the crowd and getting one of their team to take part.”
Gary Harrison, commercial manager for Worldwide Fruit added, “Our research shows that once tried, people keep coming back to the Jazz brand so this fits in well with our face to face marketing plans and at the same time we are helping raise vital funds for conservation.”
