Worldwide Fruit (WFL) is extending availability of UK-grown Jazz apples this season to Lidl as well as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose, Marks & Spencer, The Co-op and Booths.

The crop is double the size of last season’s thanks to new plantings coming on stream, and WFL is hopeful that a new promotional competition will boost the speciality variety’s profile.

The Team Jazz Sports Sponsorship Scheme was launched this month and offers 10 promising athletes from any sport the chance to win £1,500-worth each to help them reach their goals.

They will receive £1,000 to help lift the financial burden of competitions, as well as receiving a publicity campaign with the aim of attracting additional media interest and sponsorship. The opportunity is being fronted by extreme sports athlete Tim Emmett, who will also take the chosen 10 on an activity team-building weekend.

WFL commercial manager Gary Harrison said: “The sponsorship of extreme sports athlete Tim Emmett and the motivational talks he runs at schools have already helped to position Jazz at the forefront of supporting healthy eating, healthy living and sport. Through the new Team Jazz scheme, we hope to cement this link to a range of sports while hopefully supporting some Olympic or world champions of the future.

“By generating media coverage around the sponsorship opportunity, the team members and their victories in a range of national and regional media, it enables us to further position the brand and raise awareness of Jazz. We don’t see this as a one-off sponsorship, but as something we would like to build on year on year.”
