US apple producers are celebrating after Japan agreed to ease quarantine restrictions on their fruit.
The changes are expected to take effect from August and the decision is thought to have been based on advice from a World Trade Organisation panel.
That advice followed a ruling in late June by the WTO dispute settlement panel that Japan’s restrictions on US apples, aimed at preventing fire blight, were not supported by the scientific evidence.
