The first volumes of Jazz apples grown in the major Italian production area of Alto Adige are set to hit the market this year.

There are 150,000 trees in Alto Adige and a further 130,000 will be planted next year.

VOG chairman Georg Kössler told FPJ that the body is keen to start sendings to the UK. He said: “We are convinced that this club variety has in Alto Adige the best conditions for producing the best quality.

“The quality is good and coloration is optimum this year. Prices will be higher because there is less production and at the start of the season, stores were empty as there was no overhang from the southern hemisphere. This meant that we cold make a good start.”
