Agrexco has Israeli figs available again for export after a short spring break.
The first shipment of Negro Largo is already in the UK after being harvested in the region of Neot Hakikar in southern Israel. Fruit from Jordan Valley will be next to come on stream.
Bezalel Madmon is fig product manager at Agrexco he said: “Exports this summer will be in the region of 50-60 tonnes. The season runs from May to March and in the autumn we will have fruit from other growing areas with more moderate weather such as Karme Yosef in the Judea mountains. During the winter production moves to the warmest place in Israel - Kikar Sedom, near the Dead Sea.”
Madmon hopes to see increased returns to growers so that they can in turn re-invest and increase production volumes through new plantings.
