The first shipment of Israeli potatoes left the country on November 19 this year.

The exports will begin with the UK, with new potatoes Nicola and Maris Peer.

Next in line are Spain, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Greece, Belgium and Poland.

Nicola, Dita, Vivaldi and Marable are just some of the varieties that will be exported this season. Supply will end in July.

The potatoes are grown in the southern part of Israel, in the Negev, on 2,400 hectares, which yield some 105,000 tonnes.

Nuki Noifeld, product manager at exporter Agrexco, said the forecast for this season is 100,000t - up 20 per cent on last season.
