israeli grapefruit is due to come on stream at the end of the month and exporter Agrexco is forecasting a top-quality year for its Carmel brand.
Agrexco UK general manager Oded Yacovson told freshinfo: “The weather has been excellent - warm and dry - and we are expecting a similar volume to last year. We expect the season to run until April. Red fruit will be the first on stream and white will start later.”
Red grapefruit is grown all over Israel; in Upper Galilee, Western Galilee, Hasharon, along the coast and Negev.
Agrexco is also highlighting its green-skinned red pomelo this season and reports that this year its grapefruit-pomelo cross Sweetie is bigger in size but also juicier - “the result of perfect cultivation conditions in the Galilee,” said Yacovson.
