Israeli firm AA Polytiv has won a Palestinian Authority (PA) tender to supply covers for new greenhouses the PA plans to build in the Gaza Strip.

The contract is estimated at US$1 million. Polytiv is a leading manufacturer of polyethylene covers. It is believed that the present contract will greatly expand, as the number of Palestinian greenhouses in the Gaza Region increases.

The tender is mainly for the delivery of agricultural inputs to the Gaza Strip, as reported in Globes, but it also includes plastic covers for greenhouses, irrigation equipment, pesticides, and anti-pest nets.

The US government is financing the tender. It has transferred US$28m to the Palestinian Authority, of which the sum of US$2.5m is slated for the purchase of plastic products by the end of 2005. The report notes that Polytiv has already delivered 140 tonnes of the 400t order, with the rest scheduled for delivery to the PA by September 25.
