Israeli Early Sweet exports up

Agrexco is forecasting a 25 per cent increase in exports of Carmel white seedless variety Early Sweet on last season’s levels.

The season is due to start in May and run through until September. Eitan Zvi, grape product manager at Agrexco, said: “This year’s yield is very successful both in quality and in quantity, with a total of 2,500 tonnes versus last year’s 2,000t. Total cultivation area amounts to 250 hectares, with 50 vine growers.”

Production is spread throughout Israel to take advantage of conditions in different growing areas and provide continuous availability for five months.

Zvi said: “The first part of the season begins in May and continues until mid-June. Early Sweet grown in the eastern part of Israel ripens first and reaches the market early. The second part of the season continues until September, with the arrival of grapes from the central part of Israel.”
