Meanwhile, leading fresh-produce exporter Agrexco, said that it plans to export 1,500 tonnes of strawberries this season, mostly Yuval and Tamar. The bulk of exports are earmarked for the UK multiples, and in the case of M&S, Agrexco is also packing fruit shelf-ready. Last year, Agrexco exported 1,100 tonnes of strawberries.

This season Palestinian growers plan to export 1,500 tonnes of strawberries, marketed by Agrexco in Western Europe under its Coral brand labelled “Palestinian Produce.” Strawberry production in the Gaza region is one of the region’s key agricultural lines, contributing to the region’s ailing economy.

In addition, Palestinian farmers, who have reconditioned the greenhouses left by Israeli settlers after the pullout, have just started exporting capsicum and cherry tomatoes. There are some 2,700 protective structures covering an area of 750 acres, and the Palestinians plan to use this infrastructure to increase production of a wide range of vegetables for export in the future.
