The Peachcot variety

The Violet cultivar

The Violet cultivar

Ben-Dor Fruit Nurseries in the Upper Galilee region of Israel last week introduced two new varieties of summer fruit - Peachcot and Violet.

According to Sefi Ben-Dor, the new cultivars are apricot hybrids, with a deep red colour and a unique taste. Peachcot is a colourful, round-shaped fruit, with a dotted skin and yellow flesh. It is very juicy and combines the aromas of peaches and apricots.

The Violet strain has red-coloured skin, with deep-red flesh, a high sugar content and a fine sweet-sour balance of taste.

The two new summer fruit varieties are being sent to large UK multiples and other leading chains in western Europe.
