Delegates at the last Interpoma

Organic apples will be the focus on the final day at Interpoma in November.

The Italian trade show for the production, storage and marketing of apples will be held in Bolzano, from the November 6-8, for the sixth time.

Organic agriculture turns over €28 billion, of which €15 billion are generated in Europe alone.

Italy ranks fifth in the world and first in Europe for organic production, followed by Spain, Germany, and the UK, with 1.15 million hectares of land under cultivation and 50,276 workers directly employed in the sector.

There are 950 organic Italian apple producers, generating a total of 75,000 tonnes of organic apples from 3,009ha of land, of which 938ha are in the process of conversion to organic production.

The topic will be addressed during the seminar entitled ‘The Production and Market of Organic Apples’, which will be moderated by the director of the Laimburg Center of Experimentation, Josef Dalla Via.

The line-up will include Jeanette Huber of Zukunfstinstitut Horx Gmbh, in Frankfurt, who will examine the subject of ‘Organic Consumption - Fashion or Trend for the Future?’, while Dietmar Franzelin, director of the Südtirol Bio Co-operative, and Gerhard Eberhöfer, director of Val Venosta Bio, will elaborate on the current state of organic apple production and marketing in Alto Adige.
