In an unprecedented move, Spanish citrus promotional body Intercitrus has fixed minimum size profiles for the harvesting of key soft citrus and orange varieties for the fresh market.

The extraordinary move came at Intercitrus’s general assembly last week and demonstrates the will of the troubled organisation to try and ensure profitability in what promises to be a high-volume year.

The minimum size for Okitsu, Clausellina and Owari has been set at 52mm. For Oronules, Clementina Fina, Lorentina, Nour, Beatriz, Mioro, Esbal, Hernandina and Clemenruby it is 46mm and for Marisol, Arrufatina, Oroval, Orogrande, Clemenules, Clemenpons, Nadorcott, Ellendale, Clemenviall, Fortuna and Ortanique it is 50mm. Oranges in the Navel group have a minimum size set at 67mm, while it is 64mm for Valencia Late.
