The aim is to create a uniform, well-recognised and clear principles to ensure the packaging sector attracts people to the industry, encourages them to progress, raises the overall level of industry members and sets a benchmark within the sector and for those interacting with the industry. Head of membership services Helen Chambers said: “It is crucial for the institute to establish integrity and transparency in its proceedings. The development of a professional standards board to establish and manage the professional standards to which we adhere to is a crucial element of this process… by bringing together senior industry players, academics and vocational representatives, we will be able to achieve not only clarity but accessibility, currency and equality criteria.”

The IOP proposal to the trustees and council has been approved and will begin to implement the plans.
