CRP Print & Packaging Ltd in Corby and Produce Packaging, near Maidstone, have joined forces to produce eye-catching British-branded paper liners for plastic crates used to display UK-grown apples and pears at point-of-sale in Tesco.
After considering various weights of liners the packaging companies found corrugated board the most successful, combining protective cushioning for the fruit with an attractive appearance.
The white fine-flute board is flexo pre-printed with red and blue graphics featuring the Union flag and the words ‘British Produce’, making the fruit’s origins instantly identifiable.
The introduction of the liners has contributed to a significant increase in Tesco’s sales of British top fruit, said CRP. And the packaging duo hopes to adopt them for other ranges of British fruit and vegetables.
