Innovation nets Anglia top billing

Anglia Business Solutions won the Innovation of the Year award, sponsored by the Chilean Fresh Fruit Industry, for its work on system LabelCheck.

Mislabelled product is one of the most common reasons for a failed delivery, and one that can cost supermarket suppliers up to £40,000 for each incident. In a market already hampered by tight trading conditions and profits, the benefit of schemes that can remove any margin of error is undeniable. Anglia Business Solutions’ LinkFresh LabelCheck & QC mobile suite of applications is one such system.

The innovative device is the result of significant investment in Microsoft’s .NET framework by Anglia, which has developed a catalogue of re-useable objects as a platform for the development of groundbreaking business-oriented mobile and e-commerce solutions.

The solutions incorporate three technology elements unique to Anglia, namely Drizzler Technology, enabling mobile handheld devices to operate anywhere irrespective of available communications links, DataMaker, which helps to create thousands of lines of error-free .NET code in seconds, and Auto Update, which synchronises the handheld devices with the latest release of the application immediately on logging on to the host server.

The degree of world-class innovations incorporated into these applications has been recognised by Microsoft, who commissioned Anglia to implement the core business solution at its Life2 exhibition opened by Bill Gates last year.

LabelCheck itself is a mobile application designed for the packhouse or field environment, which ensures that every aspect of labelling for each delivery is verified against information held in a central business management system, before product is allowed to leave the premises.

The LabelCheck system has recently been employed by leading fresh produce marketer G’s Marketing, which supplies a variety of fresh products to leading retailers, many of whom have introduced fines for product mislabelling.

The key challenge facing the IT sector servicing the needs of the fresh produce industry is the rapidly changing business models inherent in the industry. Both Anglia’s LinkFresh management applications and the .NET-based LabelCheck & QC Systems are ideally suited to operate in this dynamic environment.

Finalists included Norton Folgate for Celebrating the Cherry and Tesco for Heritage apples.
