Fresh produce players from across the world can battle it out for the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award - FLIA 2008 - now open to applicants.

The award recognises outstanding innovation in the fresh produce sector and its service industries.

It will be presented at the worldwide gathering in Berlin next year.

The competition is open to companies and organisations that have introduced innovations to the market since November 1, 2006, who can submit an entry for consideration.

But the award is exclusive to registered exhibitors and their registered co-exhibitors at the 2008 exhibition.

The organisers have stressed that they are looking for “revolution” rather than “evolution”, and that products and services that are only minor developments of existing products will not qualify.

The 10 most outstanding innovations will chosen by a special jury and will be presented to more than 43,000 trade visitors at Fruit Logistica 2008.

Visitors will then vote in a secret ballot for the most outstanding innovation of the year.

The winning product will be announced on February 9 at an award ceremony.
