Industry impressed by nozzles

Syngenta has reported that an estimated 20 percent of the industry has converted to their potato nozzles.

The nozzles, which are specially angled to improve spray penetration in dense crops and give better leaf coverage, have already sold 600 packs this season.

The company says the nozzles can help to target late season Shirlan applications onto lower leaves and stems more effectively - giving added protection against infection from foliar blight lesions spreading to tubers.

Syngenta application specialist Ben Magri said: “Blight pressure remains intense this season; the BPC is warning daily that the incidence of infection is higher than ever. Getting the powerful zoospore activity of Shirlan onto lower stems and the soil surface can help to minimise the spread of disease and damage to tubers. Wet soil conditions enable blight zoospores to move freely, which makes the role of Shirlan even more essential.”
