A new range of R-PET plastic punnets for fresh produce has been introduced on a mass scale by packaging manufacturer ILIP.

The move was in response to higher demand from recycled material from UK customers, in particular.

Dr Mauro Stipa, export director at ILIP, told FPJ that UK supermarkets are offering incentives to those that use recycled packaging.

The R-PET punnets are made from recycled plastic sandwiched between two layers of virgin plastic, to meet food safety standards.

Punnets made from PET will now be available in R-PET.

“We had enquiries from a number of UK importers who said they were increasingly obliged to use R-RET by the multiples.

“They look exactly the same. It might look like the extra R is the only difference, but it makes a big difference. R-PET is now one of out standard lines.”
