James Walton

IGD chief economist James Walton will be taking part in an interactive on-stage debate with Fresh Produce Journal editor Michael Barker at FPJ Live.

Following on from the afternoon Retail & Consumer session, Walton will discuss wide-ranging issues such as food prices, changing shopper diets and behaviour, in-store retail trends, traceability and more, backed with figures from IGD’s extensive shopper, retail and supply chain research. Delegates will also have the opportunity to put questions to Walton and take part in the debate.

IGD is an influential food and consumer goods research and training charity. It works together with the entire supply chain to provide information and best practice advice to the trade to ensure it delivers what matters to the public. IGD has a particular focus on helping deliver a secure and sustainable future where everyone has safe, affordable and reliable food and consumer goods.

Walton’s role at IGD is to help businesses anticipate and cope with the economic, geopolitical, social and environmental factors they face. Having joined 15 years ago, he has been IGD’s chief economist since 2004.

Walton, who makes regular appearances in the national media, works with clients across the supply chain as well as government departments and NGOs.

Barker said: “I’m delighted that James will be taking part in what will be a fascinating discussion about some of the most important issues facing fresh produce businesses, both now and in the future. With IGD’s pan-industry focus, James is uniquely placed to discuss current trends and the ongoing development of the trade. It’s a great chance for suppliers to learn about retail and consumer trends, and understand how their businesses fit into the new environment.”

Walton joins a strong lineup of major industry figures in this must-attend national conference. See www.fpjconferences.com for the full programme.
