Hydrogarden has been supplying commercial growers as well as garden centres for the past six years and believes there is scope for greater uptake of the growing methods given their advance in the Netherlands where almost all glasshouse production uses hydroponic methods. These go hand-in-hand with integrated pest management techniques, according to the company.

'Hydroponics appears to be in a strong position to be able to supply pesticides-free products,' said a spokesman. '...If the reduction in registered agricultural pesticides spreads further across Europe, then UK hydroponics may see a major upturn in growth.' Meanwhile, Coventry-based Hydrogarden has just released a new six-inch deep gulley Hydro Gulley aimed specifically at commercial growers because of its long-lasting properties.
