British root-crop, brassica and salad grower-packer Huntapac Produce Ltd has invested in solar panels to cut its carbon footprint and introduce energy savings.
The third-generation Lancashire firm turned to micro-generation specialist Renewable Solutions UK to install a large photovoltaic array and yield an estimated £500,000 in savings and revenue over the next 25 years as well as reducing CO2 by half in the same period.
Huntapac technical director Stephen Shields said: “There were two main reasons for choosing to install solar photovoltaic panels on the packhouse roof. The first was the opportunity to make considerable cost savings, and the second was to demonstrate our continuing commitment to operating as sustainably and as responsibly as possible.”
Huntapac chose Renewable Solutions as it was able to erect a bespoke scaffolding system with a mechanical loading platform that could be operated without obstructing or hindering operations.
