A shortlist of five developers has been chosen to draw up detailed proposals for the redevelopment of Hull’s historic Fruit Market area, following the first stage of a development competition run by Citybuild.

A deal has been agreed with Hull’s fruit traders, which is expected to see them relocate to a purpose-built facility in West Hull next year.

Citybuild has already secured about 70 per cent of the properties by agreement and is also pressing ahead with its proposals for a Compulsory Purchase Order to complete the essential land assembly exercise.

The historic 3.6-hectare Fruit Market is one of Hull’s most marketable development opportunities with its historic fabric and waterfront location. The area will be transformed into a mixed-use lifestyle quarter through conversions and new buildings.

The five developers - CTP St James & Wright Group, Gladedale Group (Reland), Horncastle Group, Igloo Regeneration and Ispace & Quintain & Wykeland Group have until the end of September to put together their detailed proposals.
